OPEN DURING WINTER = ✅

1.) Alexander’s of Door County (this one’s our personal fave) – $$$ (✅)

Alexander’s is the ideal spot for a night out. Their menu has options for everyone, and everything we’ve ever had there has been amazing. We HIGHLY recommend the Cowboy Ribeye! Their after dinner cocktails are also amazing. Make sure you make reservations well in advance, because it’s hard to get them.

2.) The Boathouse on the Bay (another one of our absolute favorites) – $$

Affectionately known as the Boathouse, this is the spot for insane views and the best Lobster Roll in Wisconsin. They even have live music on the upper deck most nights in the summer. Their cocktail list has some very original recipes that are incredible.

3.) AC Tap – $ (✅)

Don’t sleep on the Tap. The Tap is a Door County staple. It gives off towny bar vibes, and is a favorite of both the locals and key-to-Door County holder, AJ Dillon. They’re known for their “wimpy’s” which are delicious sliders that you’ll want to order by the dozen!

4.) Sister Bay Bowl – $$ (✅)

The “Bowl” has been around for over 70 years, and is anchored in as a part of Sister Bay’s history. This place is the ultimate family spot. You can take the kids bowling (and teach them how to score manually!), and sit down for a nice supper club dinner in the same spot. Food is always great, and they have very underrated pizzas.

5.) Wickman House – $$$

Wickman House is located in Ellison Bay and offers a high end dining experience, and is backed by the recent award of a James Beard nomination. Everything on their menu is can’t miss.

6.) Barringers – $$$ (✅)

Barringers in Fish Creek emits a modern eclectic vibe, and offers guests an excellent steak. The menu offers many meat and seafood options, and tons of amazing wines.

7.) Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant – $$ (✅)

No Door County restaurant list could ever be complete without Al Johnson’s. This is one of the most famous tourist destinations not only in Wisconsin, but in the world. People come from all over the world to see the place famous for having goats on the roof. Al Johnson’s offers an unbeatable breakfast menu, complete with all the swedish staples, and offers the recent addition of Stabbur, the outdoor beer garden. Stabbur also offers a pretty kick-a** fish fry on Fridays during the summer months.

8.) Wild Tomato Pizza – $$ (✅)

Ok, so Wild Tomato is clearly known for their wood fired pizzas. And they are worthy of that recognition. However, whether you’re a Wisconsinite or not, we can not recommend highly enough that you go to Wild Tomato solely and exclusively for their cheese curds. No exaggeration, they are easily top 3 cheese curds in the state of Wisconsin (in our experience). They also have a “green and gold” pizza that has the cheese curds right on top…just saying.

9.) Thyme – $$ (✅)

A relative newcomer here has BURST onto the scene. The food here is literally insane. The menu offers some very unique flavor combinations, highlighted by the goat cheese flatbread that we’ve become completely obsessed with. Thyme is a combined building with Twelve Eleven Wine + Provisions, which offers the best wine in Door County (it’s from California, but still). Thyme is truly can’t miss.

10.) JJ’s La Puerta – $$

JJ’s has been around forever. JJ himself historically was always in the bar and always the first to check in on every table. JJ’s offers American and Mexican cuisine that is always a hit. Our favorite is the Macho Chimi. Don’t forget to have a “Bernie.” JJ’s did recently get purchased by the lovely folks that own Wild Tomato, and may show off some new ideas in 2023.

This is only a starting point. Many of these are places that we truly love going to. There are so many incredible restaurants in northern Door County, but this should get you started with a few of the top spots to check out.
